Programs for School UseIt’s All About Kids (IAAK) provides Supplemental Educational Services (SES) to kindergarten through 12th grade students of Hawaii. IAAK’s fun, innovative computer-based educational curriculum (CompassLearning™) is designed to improve students’ core academic skills while motivating them to embrace learning and scholastic achievement.
IAAK provides SES in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Under NCLB, economically disadvantaged families whose children attend schools that have been identified as being “in need of school improvement, Year 2” have the right to select a state-approved SES provider to deliver federally-funded academic tutoring services to their children. NCLB requires public schools to set aside a portion of their Title 1 education funds to pay for these services.
Program
IAAK uses the CompassLearning™ Odyssey software program in combination with on-site tutor support/coaching, exceeding the requirements of Title 1 and the Hawaii Supplemental Educational Services.
CompassLearning™ is an interactive and fun program that was developed by industry experts and is currently used by 14 million students in 21,000 schools nationwide. It features pre and post assessment tests that provide individual learning paths for each student. The curriculum is directly correlated to the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards (HCPS), which ensures that the IAAK programs are directly supplementing what is being taught in the classroom. The program provides a strong back end data management system that provides real-time data to track the progress of each student and compare trends.
Learner Engagement
Student engagement is the key to learning. Compass Learning’s multi-media, interactive curriculum appeals to a variety of learning styles by integrating diverse instructional strategies and varied assignments. To further increase motivation, IAAK offers a performance-based rewards program where points are accrued daily based on academic achievement and growth and redeemed real time for free merchandise. The No Child Left Behind Act was created in 2001 to bring standards and accountability to public schools.
Hawaii’s Challenges In Hawaii, more than 25,000 students are eligible for SES under NCLB. However, only 17% utilize the opportunity for this free service and Hawaii only spent approximately $2.8M of the $7.3M allocated for these programs in the school year 2004-2005. It is estimated that 44 elementary, middle and intermediate schools on Oahu qualify for SES.
Why aren’t kids using these programs?
• Lack of providers
• Families are unaware of free services available
• The services offered through existing private learning centers are not conveniently located to the students.
• The educational tools are not interesting enough to capture the child’s imagination or motivation.
• Minimal or lack of additional incentive for the students.
IAAK is focused on bringing a new breed of educational services to Hawaii – services that are easy to access, fun, and effective. Testimonials.

Research-based Curriculum
CompassLearning™ is an interactive and fun program that was developed by industry experts and is currently used by 14 million students in 21,000 schools nationwide. Learners begin with a pre-assessment which identifies academic strengths and weaknesses. Based on the pre-test data, an individualized learning path comprised of diverse learning activities, quizzes, and tests is created to ensure each learner’s needs are addressed.
School Support
Providing on going support is a priority to ensure successful implementation and administering of the program. Regular support visits are made to review data and assess academic achievement and school objectives with school administrator(s). Professional development opportunities offer another avenue of support, focusing on collaborating with educators and administrators to maximize IAAK’s SmartKids programs to meet school goals.
Parent Involvement
Recognizing the essential role parents play in ensuring a learner’s success, IAAK provides parents with access to a variety of tools and resources. Using a parent login, parents can access their child’s learning path, progress reports, and real-time rewards earnings.
